WWF EARTH HOUR - #TweetMyPower
THE BIG QUESTION
What if we encourage participants of the Earth Hour event across 7000 cities and towns worldwide to give cash donations to Earth Hour’s mother organization the, WWF World Wildlife Fund for Nature?
To make things more relevant and easy to disseminate, what if we do this via Twitter?
THE CHALLENGE
Havas mobile marketing team, Mobext have commissioned the Design & Tech Team (D+T) to create a responsive web donation platform. What makes this donation platform unique is that it will be integrated into Twitter.
Crowdsourcing fund platforms like gofundme have seen phenomenal success over the years. People are actually willing to give donations to causes that they believe in. One of the challenges of designing and building donation platforms is creating a sense of security and authenticity that would give the users the peace of mind in using the platform.
We have the advantage of the WWF Earth Hour brand that in itself commands respect and authenticity. As user interface designers, it is our responsibility to reflect these ideals at every touch point in the donation platform.
The issue of privacy and security is the primary challenge of designing and building a donation website. This web donation platform requires the user to connect to their personal Twitter account, fill-in the user’s credit card details and link it to their Twitter account. Users will be able to directly select the value of their donation: US10 or US50 and a pre-written Tweet will appear in their Twitter feed account, announcing the donation that was made by the user. A donation badge will also appear on the user’s Tweet feed.
THE SOLUTION
Transparency is the main driver of the user journey that we have created. We want users to know what they are signing-up for. Asking users to link their Twitter accounts to their debit/credit card is a tall order. This act would cover security issues as well as the possibility of compromising their social media account.
Adding the feature of users being able to easily “link” and “unlink” their accounts in Twitter speaks volumes about the platform’s intention of safeguarding sensitive information.
